The study program leading to the Diploma in Osteopathy (QC) comprises of two levels. 

  

FIRST LEVEL: 

  

The first level has two undergraduate programs: the Full-time curriculum for students holding a College (DEC) or an equivalent degree and the Curriculum in Osteopathy for Health Professionals.

   

 

Full-time curriculum for students holding a College (DEC) or an equivalent degree. 

  

Objectives of the first level: Study health sciences and Osteopathy; acquire clinical competencies, know-how and palpation skills required for each field of Osteopathy; know clinical methodology permitting efficient response to patients’ needs and ensuring safety of the public.

 

The program is four and a half year long, each year being divided in two semesters between September and April, with the exception of the last year which is actually only four months long.

 

Courses are scheduled from 9 am to 5:30 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays for the first three years; for the fourth year, Monday to Thursday. There are mid-term and final examinations which may be written, oral clinical and practical.

 

Individual work normally expected from students is 1.5 hour per hour of formal course. We strongly recommend team work that will allow better learning and integration of knowledge and competencies.

 

Curriculum in Osteopathy for Health Professionals.    

  

Objectives of the first level: Study Osteopathy; acquire clinical competencies, know-how and palpation skills  required for each field of Osteopathy; know clinical methodology permitting efficient response to patients’ needs and ensuring safety of the public.

 

The program is five years long, each year (from September to April) comprising 6 or 7 «five days seminars» with the last day devoted to clinical integration. Normally, week-ends are included in the «five days seminars».

 

Courses are scheduled from 9H00 to 12H30 and from 13H30 to 18H00. Examinations are written, oral, clinical and practical.

 

 

SECOND LEVEL: GRADUATE PROGRAM LEADING TO THE DIPLOMA IN OSTEOPATHY (Qc)

 

All students from both undergraduate programs who have passed their examinations are regrouped in a common part time graduate program.

 

Objective of this program… learning with experts. 

  

Through this level, students will develop their ability to synthesize, analyze and self-criticize their ability to find way of resolving complex clinical cases. Many patients present chronic cases, pain or evolutionary dysfunctions. This program helps develop the means required to ease these patients’ pains.         

  

With such knowledge, osteopaths will be able to work within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

 

Throughout this level, students will meet experts who will transmit their know-how and methods adapted to such complexity.

 

You will be able to select the most convenient program to acquire experience and expertise whether in research or clinical work.

 

 

 

LEVEL TWO PROVIDES TWO DIFFERENT COUSES OF ACTION:      

  


1- Program with dissertation (or thesis). 

  

This program will require using learned knowledge along with the experts’ contributions in producing a fundamental, clinical or qualitative research paper.

 

·        Eight days of formal learning (60 Hrs)

·        Preparation and presentation of a 20 pages research protocol.

·        Preparation and presentation of a 100 to 150 pages dissertation.

·        Five days of contacts with experts, post graduate courses and symposium. (All optional)

·        Specialized courses. (Optional)

 

2- Program with clinical internship and essay.  

 

This program, based upon clinical use of acquired knowledge and of methods taught by experts will permit proper treatment of complex cases of patients with pain or with chronic or evolving conditions.

 

  • Internship 1- College’s outpatient clinic:  40 hrs. Setting a plan for osteopathic treatment to ease patients’ pain and application of treatment. Ratio: 1 supervisor, 3 students, 1 cubicle. 
  • Internship 2- College’s outpatient clinic: 40 hrs. Maturity allowing treatment varying in complexity. Ratio: 1 supervisor, 6 students, 2 cubicles. 
  • Internship 3- College’s outpatient clinic:  40 hrs. Acquiring expertise for complex patients. Ratio: 1 supervisor, 6 students, 3 cubicles. 
  • Internship 4- 280 hrs. gained through one or more of the following: 
  1. Clinical experience with a D.O. approved by the College.
  2. Equivalent clinical experience approved by the College.(e.g. Humanitarian experience, hospital work.)
  3. Post graduate courses approved by the College followed by a report. (Max.64 hrs.)
  4. Act as assistant during clinical day. Training to become supervisor.
  5. Other projects or activities, with the College’s prior approval.

 

·        Essay on two clinical cases (approx. 20-30 pages) comprising: 

 

  1. A thorough review of the subject.
  2. Presentation and analysis of the question.
  3. Discussion.
  4. Proposal of a treatment.

 

·        Specialized courses. (80 hrs.)

 - Geriatrics,  sports lesions, pediatrics, chronic and progressive diseases, pain, gynecology and obstetrics.

 

Upon completion of the second cycle, the student will be awarded the Quebec diploma of Osteopathy. D.O. (Qc)
